Tata Motors has officially launched the highly anticipated
electric version of its popular SUV, the Harrier EV, in India today, June 3,
2025. This marks a significant step for Tata Motors in expanding its electric
vehicle portfolio and catering to the growing demand for EVs in the SUV
segment. The Harrier EV aims to blend the robust design and road presence of
the conventional Harrier with a powerful and technologically advanced electric
powertrain.
The Tata Harrier EV has been launched with an introductory
starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This price is for the base
rear-wheel-drive variant with the 65 kWh battery. While the prices for the other
variants, including the all-wheel-drive version with the 75kWh battery, are yet
to be fully revealed, they are expected to range upwards from this introductory
price.
The Harrier EV comes loaded with a plethora of modern
features, making it a compelling offering in the electric SUV space. Some of
the key features include:
·
Battery and Range: It is available with two battery pack options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The
larger 75 kWh battery offers a claimed MIDC range of up to 627 km. In
real-world conditions, the range is expected to be around 480-505 km for the 75
kWh rear-wheel-drive version.
·
Performance:
The Harrier EV boasts impressive performance figures. The dual-motor,
all-wheel-drive variant produces a peak torque of 504 Nm and a maximum power
output of 390.5 bhp. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 6.3 seconds. The
single-motor, front-wheel-drive variant with the 65 kWh battery delivers 235
bhp.
·
Drivetrain: The
Harrier EV is available in both Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) with the 65 kWh battery
and All-Wheel Drive (AWD), which Tata Motors terms "QWD" (Quadra
Wheel Drive), with the 75 kWh battery and a dual-motor setup. This makes it the
first Tata EV to offer an AWD system.
·
Charging: The
EV supports DC fast charging, allowing it to charge from 20-80% in
approximately 25 minutes using a 120 kW charger. It also comes with a 7.2 kW AC
charger, which can charge the battery from 10-100% in about 10.7 hours.
·
Design: While
it retains the overall silhouette and design language of the internal
combustion engine (ICE) powered Harrier, the EV version gets distinctive
touches. These include a closed-off front grille for better aerodynamics,
redesigned front and rear bumpers, and new aero-optimised alloy wheels
(19-inch). It also features connected LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and
tail lamps.
·
Interior: The
interior layout is largely similar to the ICE Harrier but features a brighter
colour theme. Notable additions include a new dial for the drive mode selector.
·
Technology:
The Harrier EV is equipped with a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system
from Harman and Samsung Neo QLED, a 12.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster,
a new four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, and a
touch-based HVAC control panel.
·
Advanced Features: It boasts a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable and ventilated
front seats with memory function, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby
Atmos, a digital Inner Rear View Mirror (IRVM), and a powered tailgate.
·
Safety: Safety
features include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with 22
features, a 540-degree surround view camera with a "Transparent
Bonnet" view, blind spot monitoring, six airbags, Electronic Parking Brake
(EPB), hill hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
·
Special Features: Unique features include a "Summon Mode" allowing the car to be
moved forward and backward using the key fob, multiple drive modes (four) and
terrain modes (six: Sand, Rock-Crawl, Mud Ruts, Custom, and Normal), a "Boss
Mode" to adjust the front passenger seat from the rear, and a phone-as-key
functionality. It also gets a DrivePay feature for FASTag and EV charging point
payments.
·
Warranty: Tata
Motors is offering a lifetime warranty on the battery pack, making it the first
in its segment to do so.
·
Vehicle-to-Load
(V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities are also
expected.
