The
iconic Luna, a symbol of Indian freedom and mobility for decades, is back with
a modern twist - the Kinetic E-Luna. Launched on February 7, 2024, this
electric scooter promises a blend of nostalgia, affordability, and
practicality, aiming to revolutionize urban transportation in India.
The
original Luna, introduced in 1972, captured the hearts of millions with its
peppy design and fuel efficiency. The E-Luna retains the classic silhouette
while embracing a sustainable future. Its sleek, retro-inspired looks evoke
memories of the past, while the electric powertrain signifies a step towards
cleaner mobility.
With
a starting price of Rs. 69,990 (ex-showroom), the E-Luna is one of the most
affordable electric scooters in India. This strategic pricing makes it
accessible to a wider audience, potentially accelerating the adoption of
electric vehicles in Tier 2 and 3 cities.
The
E-Luna boasts a claimed range of 110km on a single charge, sufficient for daily
commutes. The two variants, X1 and X2, cater to different needs. The X1 offers
a basic package, while the X2 adds features like a larger battery pack, a USB
charging port, and a luggage rack.
The Kinetic Green E-Luna offers customers five distinct color options so they
can personalize their electric scooter. Those five color selections are named
as follows:
·
Mulberry Red
·
Pearl Yellow
·
Ocean Blue
·
Night Star Black
·

While
the E-Luna's launch has generated excitement, some questions remain. The actual
on-road range, performance, and durability need real-world testing.
Additionally, the competition in the electric scooter segment is fierce, with
established players and new entrants vying for market share.
The
Kinetic E-Luna has the potential to be a game-changer, but its success hinges
on several factors. Delivering on the promised range and performance, building
a robust charging infrastructure, and establishing a strong service network
will be crucial.
The Luna is among the lightest
two-wheelers available for purchase in India right now, weighing only 96
kilograms. Furthermore, given that the electric motor produces 22 Nm of torque
right out of the box, the E-Luna may wind up being a highly effective workhorse
for both commercial and commuter use.
