This landmark decision was
announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 21, 2023. This is a
significant step towards reducing pollution and combating climate change.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief
minister of Uttar Pradesh, has made the ambitious announcement that by 2030,
all state-owned vehicles will be replaced with electric vehicles (EVs). This
announcement is a part of the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and
Mobility Policy 2022, which also includes a 15% subsidy on the factory price of
an EV and a three-year, 100% road tax and registration fee exemption.
As we all know, transportation is
a major contributor to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Switching to
electric vehicles (EVs) will significantly reduce harmful emissions and improve
air quality, especially in densely populated cities like Uttar Pradesh.
Moreover, EVs are more
energy-efficient than traditional internal combustion engine (ICE)
vehicles, which means they can help reduce India's dependence on foreign oil
imports. This will also help to save money in the long run, as the cost of
electric vehicles and charging infrastructure continues to decrease.
According to Chief Minister
Adityanath, the government will provide incentives for people to switch to EVs,
such as tax breaks and subsidies for purchasing and charging EVs. Additionally,
the government plans to set up charging stations throughout the state to ensure
that EV drivers have convenient access to charging.
The government is also working
with automakers to ensure that there are enough EV models available to meet the
increased demand. This will help to create jobs and stimulate economic growth
in the state.

·
The
Uttar Pradesh government has decided to exempt electric vehicles from paying
road tax and registration fees for three years, beginning October 14, 2022.
This exemption will be extended to EVs manufactured in the state for a
five-year period.
·
From
October 14, 2022, to October 13, 2025, the policy waives all taxes on EVs sold
and registered in the state.
·
A
100 percent rebate on EVs manufactured, sold, and registered in the state will
be provided in the fourth and fifth years of the policy's effective period,
from October 14, 2025, to October 13, 2027.
·
The
central government also offers subsidies for the purchase of EVs, but the state
of Uttar Pradesh is providing additional incentives. As a result, the cost of
two-wheelers and cars will be reduced by up to Rs 1 lakh for cars and up to Rs
15–20 thousand for two-wheelers on the road.
In addition to reducing emissions
and improving air quality, EVs offer a range of benefits. Here are just a few:
·
Lower operating costs: EVs are
cheaper to operate than ICE vehicles because electricity is less expensive than
Petrol or Diesel fuel.
·
Better performance: Electric
motors provide instant torque, which means that EVs can accelerate quickly and
smoothly.
·
Quieter and smoother ride: EVs are
much quieter than ICE vehicles, which means less noise pollution. They also
have fewer moving parts, which means that they require less maintenance and
have a smoother ride.
We applaud the government of Uttar
Pradesh for taking this bold step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We believe that this decision will have a positive impact not only in Uttar
Pradesh but also in other parts of India and the world. We encourage other
governments to follow Uttar Pradesh's lead and make the switch to electric
vehicles.
