Mercedes-Benz EQS is the company's
flagship sedan and a game-changer in the world of luxury electric vehicles. The
EQS is the electric version of the iconic S-Class and is the perfect choice for
anyone looking for a technologically advanced luxury sedan. The vehicle comes
with some of the latest and greatest features, including Benz's giant Hyperscreen
touchscreen, fingerprint scan driver profiles, and six USB-C ports, among
others. The vehicle offers a spacious and luxurious interior, with headrest
pillows, massage functions, and neck-and-shoulder heating, making the riding
experience more comfortable.
While the Mercedes-Benz EQS is
packed with an array of technological advancements, it falls short when it
comes to driving dynamics. The responses are syrupy, handling unremarkable, and the brake pedal feel creates a sense of disquietude, making it neither pleasing nor
engaging to drive. Despite being packed with various features, the EQS still
has a lot of refinement work to do to catch up with gasoline-powered luxury
sedans like the S-Class.
Mercedes-Benz has made a groundbreaking move with the release
of its first-ever full-electric series production model, the EQS. This EV
sedan comes in two forms, the standard 580 4Matic, which is locally
assembled, and the range-topping AMG 53, which is imported. The AMG
EQS 53, in its standard form, boasts an impressive 649hp, but with
the Dynamic Plus package, this model can produce an incredible 751hp in
Race Start mode. However, the EQS 580 is no slouch either, producing 385hp
and 855Nm of torque.

The EQS comes equipped with a 400V, 107.8kWh
lithium-ion battery that can be charged at speeds of up to 200kW.
While the AMG EQS 53 has a global WLTP rated 586km of
range, the EQS 580 has been rated by ARAI for India at an
impressive 857km of range.
In addition to its performance capabilities, the EQS also
boasts a luxurious and innovative design. The sleek exterior features an
aero-optimized shape with a coefficient drag of just 0.20, making it the most
aerodynamic production car in the world. The interior is equally impressive,
with a sweeping Hyperscreen that houses the vehicle's MBUX infotainment system,
dashboard, and more.
The EQS450+ features an
electric motor mounted on its rear axle that generates 329 horsepower
and 406 pound-feet of torque. The EQS580 4Matic has an
electric motor on each axle, which translates to the all-wheel drive and a total
system output of 516 horsepower and 611 pound-feet of torque.
The new EQS450 4Matic slots in between the two aforementioned models and
offers all-wheel drive capability and more power output to go with it: The 4MATIC
model brings 355 horsepower, up from 329 and—more noteworthy—590
pound-feet of torque, an impressive jump from the rear-drive car's 417. In our
testing, the EQS450+ accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 5.4
seconds. The more powerful EQS580 hit 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds in our
testing.
All EQS models feature a
lithium-ion battery pack with a usable capacity of 107.8 kWh. The EQS450+
offers an impressive 586 km of range, while the EQS580 offers 580
km of range. The vehicle can be charged from 10 to 100
percent in approximately 11 hours and 15 minutes using a
240-volt (Level 2) charger. Additionally, the EQS can replenish 70 percent
of its battery, from 10 to 80 percent, in about 35 minutes using
a DC fast charger.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is
compatible with Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations, as well as
DC fast charging stations. The company offers a Mercedes me Charge program that
gives EQS owners access to a vast network of public charging stations. Mercedes
also provides a generous warranty plan for the EQS, which includes 4 years
or 80,000 km of basic warranty coverage, and 8 years or 1,60,000
km of coverage for the battery and electric motors.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is equipped
with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that are designed to help
prevent accidents and mitigate their consequences. Standard safety features
include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automated emergency
braking, and blind-spot monitoring. Optional features include a surround-view
camera system, a head-up display, and an active steering assist, which is designed
to help keep the car centered in its lane and can even make passing maneuvers
on multi-lane roads.
The interior of the EQS is a
masterpiece of modern automotive design, with a futuristic and minimalistic
cabin that features an expansive touchscreen display that stretches almost the
entire width of the dashboard. The Hyperscreen is a standout feature, with
three separate displays that merge together into a single, seamless surface.
The EQS also features a high-tech fingerprint scanner that can recognize
different drivers and automatically adjust the car's settings to their
preferences. The interior is spacious and comfortable, with ample legroom and
headroom, and a selection of premium materials and finishes. The EQS also has a
suite of high-end audio and entertainment features, including a 15-speaker
Burmester sound system and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is an impressive electric luxury sedan that offers cutting-edge technology, a luxurious and spacious interior, and excellent range and performance. While it may not be the most engaging car to drive, it more than makes up for it with its comfort and convenience features. The entry-level EQS450+ is a great option for buyers who want a well-equipped electric sedan with plenty of power and range, while the top-of-the-line Pinnacle trim adds even more luxury and comfort features. Overall, the EQS is a great choice for buyers who are looking for a premium electric sedan with all the latest technology and amenities.
